"Unexpected file format" opening an IGX file containing an IDEF0 model
Problem
When I open an IGX file containing an IDEF0 model I get an error message saying that the file contains an "Unexpected file format." and the file does not open.
Solution
The ability to view IDEF0 models requires that the IDEF0 diagram type is installed. While the IDEF0 diagram type is installed by default if an IDEF0 license key is used - it is not installed by default for the FlowCharter, Process or Process for Six Sigma licenses.
- Re-run the original iGrafx Desktop Client setup.exe
- Select 'Modify' and click 'Next >'
- Click 'Next >' to move past the License key page
- In the Features tree, under 'Installation', 'Optional Diagrams', select 'IDEF0' and choose 'Will be installed on local hard drive.'
- Click 'Next >' to move past the Disk Cost
- Click 'Next >' to move past the modification page
- Click 'Finish'
