Desktop Client: What file formats can iGrafx open or read from, create, or publish to?

iGrafx can read many different file formats, and write or publish to several formats.

If you are wondering how to get your data to someone who does not have iGrafx, please see the solution titled "Desktop Client: How do I share my data (via Print, Publish, Export, etc.) with people who do not have the iGrafx client?" That solution gives more information on how to publish or export your diagram to many different formats for those who do not have iGrafx.

If you are wondering which file extensions (registered file types) that iGrafx can open, read, and convert into editable iGrafx data, then please use the following information:

  • .igx : All versions of iGrafx documents
  • .igt : iGrafx Template file; .aft and .pft read as well.
  • .flo : Micrografx FlowCharter 7 file [Not files from other applications that have registered .flo, such as RFLOW.]
  • .abc : Micrografx FlowCharter 6 or ABC FlowCharter file
  • .af3 : Micrografx FlowCharter 3.0/4.0 file
  • .af2 : Micrografx FlowCharter 2 file
  • .pfd : Micrografx Optima! 2.5 file
  • .vsd : Microsoft Visio file

Please note that it's possible that another application has registered one of the extensions listed above, and that application's data cannot be opened by iGrafx.

If you are wondering which file extensions (registered file types) that iGrafx can create (save to), then please use the following information:

  • .igx : Current & several versions back. Do a File > Save As and click on the "Save as type" drop-down menu for the list.
  • .igt : (iGrafx Template file)

Please note that the information above is based on using the latest release of iGrafx, going to the File menu, and choosing Open; or choosing 'Save As' and then clicking on the 'Save as type' drop-down menu. We recommend you follow that command sequence to check the information presented above for your version of iGrafx.

If you are wondering what formats iGrafx can export or publish to, then please see the "Desktop Client: How do I share my data (via Print, Publish, Export, etc.) with people who do not have the iGrafx client?" solution, as mentioned above. In summary, however, iGrafx can publish to:

  • Adobe® Acrobat® Portable Document Format (.PDF)
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint® (.PPT)
  • Microsoft Word® (.DOC)
  • Web-Ready Formats (.htm/.html, Java®, SVG)
  • Graphical formats (including .png, .jpg, .gif, .emf, .tif, and many others, using the Tools > Export Diagram command)

iGrafx may also be able to write to or read from an iGrafx-specific XML format, and/or other XML standards-based formats such as XPDL or BPMN-XML. Please contact your iGrafx sales representative for more information.
