Can I use Distribution Groups when synchronizing with Microsoft Active Directory?

There are two main group types within Microsoft Active Directory

  • Security Groups
  • Distribution Groups

Security groups are commonly used for assigning membership for RAC (Role-based Access Control). Distribution Groups are commonly used to send emails to a group of people that may or may note have the same rights within the Active Directory Domain.

Is it possible to also import Distribution Groups into the iGrafx Platform when synchronizing with an LDAP Directory?

Answer

Yes, there are no reasons on the iGrafx Platform side that prevent import of Distribution Groups, as long as their membership attribute is the same attribute used for Security groups. The membership attribute as well as any group filters that ensure your distribution groups are included can be configured in the article on how to Import users and groups from Active Directory.
