Multilingual Export & Import

As of version 17.6.2, the iGrafx Platform supports the bulk export and import of object names, summary, purpose, diagram content and more, for the purposes of content translation.

At this time, the interchange format is Excel Spreadsheet 2003 XML for both maximum compatibility and also a continuation of the Multilingual capabilities Export/Import that have been in the Desktop Client for years.

Additionally, Dashboard gadget names and the Rich Text gadget are not supported by Bulk Export & Import at this time.

There are three separate places where these capabilities are exposed, and that is due to the nature of versioned repository objects.

Repository Object names, Summary and Purpose

The Export/Import functions can be found in the high-level 'View Languages' grid.

The Export is limited to the selected item, and all of it's children.  If an item selected, clicking Export reveals how many items will be exported.

Note that an empty Summary or Purpose will not create a row in the Excel output.

Import Limitations

  • Versioned Repository objects (Web Diagrams, IGX Documents, External Files and Reports)
    • Changes cannot be applied if the Repository object is checked out
    • Performing an import will create a new version
  • For Repository objects, the name cannot be removed in the original language.  If a name is omitted, the original name will persist.
  • The Import is performed as the executing User. If the user does not have permission to exported objects, those objects are skipped on import.

Diagram element text, notes, header/footers and case labels

Web diagrams

The Export/Import functions can be found in the File menu, under Export to File, and Import from File.

To Import translations, the Web diagram must be checked out.

Note that elements without text (e.g. empty shape labels or notes) will not create a row in the Excel output.

IGX diagrams

The Export/Import functions can be found in the Desktop Client File menu, Languages dialog.

To Import translations, the IGX document must be checked out.

Note that elements without text (e.g. empty shape labels or notes) will not create a row in the Excel output.

Export Limitations

  • Excel does not support bullets.  At this time bullets are not supported by Bulk Export & Import
  • IGX diagrams do not export inline images or images in header/footers
