Desktop Client: On my VSM diagram, I change resource count and line balance but inventory is unchanged
If the inventory amounts, usually recorded in the inventory shapes (such as triangles, tombstones, inboxes, or clocks), were not changed in developing the Future State, the lead time will remain largely the same.
Usually, creating a future state involves guessing at what the process behavior will look like, and particularly how much (if any) inventory amounts will remain in the redesigned process. Developing the future state usually involves placing in a FIFO queue, supermarket, kanban, or even a one-piece-flow type of system that effectively reduces or eliminates the inventory.
