Watch an item
Watch an item to get email when it changes — when it's checked in or modified, commented on, or its approved version changes.
Prerequisites
- Which of the three watched-object events actually send email is a repository email notification setting; all three are on in a new repository.
- Watching an item yourself needs no special permission. Adding anyone other than yourself as a watcher needs the Manage Elective Watchers or Manage Required Watchers item permission.
Steps
- Open the item. Its primary tab shows a Watchers line with the count of required and elective watchers.
- Select Watch this object. To stop, select Unwatch this object. You can also start watching at creation time — the Add Object dialog has a Watch this object checkbox.
- Review what you watch under My Profile → Watched Objects. The Recent Changes view can also filter to View Watched Objects Only.
Required watchers
Watchers come in two kinds: elective (people who chose to watch) and required (people assigned to watch). With the manage-watchers permissions you can add either kind on the item; a required watcher sees "You have been assigned as a required watcher on this object."
