Dashboard gadgets

Each gadget on a dashboard is named by whoever built the dashboard, so its title may not tell you what kind of gadget it is or where its data comes from. Use the table below to recognize a gadget from what it shows, and to pick a type when you build one. Gadget types

Gadget	What it shows, and when to use it
Chart	A chart (bar, line, pie, and so on) built from a repository object. Use it when the shape of the data carries the message.
Table	A data table built from a repository object. Use it when readers need the exact values rather than a trend.
To-do	Each viewer's own to-do list, limited to this dashboard's repository. Use it so that anyone who opens the dashboard sees the cycle items waiting on them.
IFrame	Another web page embedded in the dashboard. Use it to bring in something that lives outside the repository, such as a Power BI report.
Rich Text	Formatted static text — headings, links, images, and tables. Use it to explain the dashboard itself: what it covers, who owns it, and where to go next.
Performance Tree	A red/amber/green traffic-light tree of Performance Indicators. Use it when readers need the status of a hierarchy of indicators rather than individual numbers.
Custom Object List	A list of specific objects, or all objects of selected types. Use it to point readers at a fixed set of items, such as the processes one team owns.
List Report	A list report — objects with their properties and relationships. Use it when an existing report already defines the items and columns you want.
Video	An embedded video, from a provider an administrator has registered. Use it for training or onboarding material.
Diagram	An interactive diagram you can zoom and open. Use it when one process is the subject of the dashboard and readers shouldn't have to find it in the Model area.
Quickstart	A panel of create buttons and quick links to objects. Use it on a dashboard for people who create content, so that new objects land in the folder you choose.

Viewing the Chart, Table, and Performance Tree gadgets requires a license that includes performance gadgets — see the License capability matrix. The other gadget types have no license gate.

Want a gadget added or changed? Viewing a dashboard doesn't let you edit it — that needs the Modify permission on the dashboard. If a dashboard is missing something you need, ask its owner (anyone with Modify) or an administrator to add, remove, or reconfigure a gadget.

Configuration options

The rest of this page is for whoever builds a dashboard. If you only view dashboards, you can stop here.

A gadget you haven't set up yet shows Gadget not yet configured. with a Configure Now button. To change a gadget later, open its Configure Gadget dialog from the settings control on the gadget's header — every dialog also has a Title field that names the gadget on the dashboard.

Chart

Chart or Performance Indicator — pick the Chart or Performance Indicator object to display.

Table

Table or Performance Indicator — pick the Table or Performance Indicator object to display.

To-do

No configuration — as soon as it's added, the gadget shows each viewer their own to-do list.

IFrame

URL — the address of the page to embed.

Rich Text

Contents — the text, written in a rich-text editor with formatting, links, images, and tables. In a multilingual repository you can switch language while editing to translate the contents.

Performance Tree

Objects — the Performance Indicators that form the roots of the tree; add as many as you need and reorder them. An object can only appear once in the list.

Custom Object List

Parent objects — the folders or objects whose contents the list shows.
Of these types — limit the list to the checked object types.
Include parent objects — list the parent objects themselves along with their contents.
Only show parent objects — list only the parent objects; the type filter doesn't apply.
Include shortcuts to these types — also list any Shortcut objects that point to one of the selected types. A Shortcut is an object that links to another object elsewhere in the repository; leave this off to list only the objects themselves.

List Report

Select a list report — pick the report to display. The gadget supports List and List TextSearch reports; for any other report type it shows that the type isn't supported. Below the rows, the gadget states how many of the report's results it's showing.

Video

Video URL — the address of the video. The URL must match one of the video providers your administrator has registered under Admin → Server Settings → Video Providers.

Diagram

Approved Diagram — pick the diagram to display. By default, only diagrams with an approved version can be chosen.
More Options → Hide icons — hide the indicator icons on the diagram's shapes.
More Options → Allow Unapproved Diagrams — allow picking any diagram, not only approved ones.

The gadget shows the diagram with zoom controls and an Open button to the diagram area.

Quickstart

Show Create Buttons — turn on the buttons you want: Create Diagram, Create Journey Map, Create Risk, Create Resource, and Create Web Address. For each button, Choose Folder sets where the new object is created.
Show Shortcuts — Add Shortcut links to any object or folder you pick, up to 8.

A button or shortcut only appears to users who have permission for it.

Adding, configuring, or removing any gadget needs the Modify item permission on the dashboard — see the prerequisites in Work with dashboards.
