2018-01-10 Meltdown and Spectre
Historical bulletin, published 10 January 2018 and kept as a record of the response at that time. The work it describes has since concluded.
iGrafx moved quickly to address the vulnerabilities exposed via Meltdown and Spectre. This bulletin recorded the state of that response when it was published.
Performance at the time: the patches for Meltdown and Spectre introduced performance degradation in a range of 10% to 30%, equivalent to what was reported industry-wide. Customers already running at a high utilization rate needed to upgrade their systems.
iGrafx Response for Managed Customers
Cloud Customers
The Microsoft Azure updates for internal infrastructure and iGrafx cloud clients were complete and outside a maintenance window. All systems had come back online and were performing within expected tolerances.
iGrafx Response for Internal Infrastructure
All production internal systems had been patched.
- The remaining systems were patched in a sequence that followed risk severity priority, as determined by the Director of IT and the Dev Ops Team.
- Because of the additional overhead introduced by the patches, performance degradation was in a range of 5% to 30%.
Response for Local Installation Customers
Because these vulnerabilities presented serious potential threats, iGrafx recommended that customers running a local installation mitigate them immediately and apply all available vendor patches with urgency.
Thank you -
