Configure BIA risks

Decide how far into a disruption a High impact still makes a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) assessment business-critical.

Prerequisites

  • The BIA Risk Data Type Early Access feature, enabled by an administrator under Admin → Server Settings → Early Access — see BIA risks.
  • Repository administrator access to the Repository area.
  • Risk-relevant objects designated with materiality thresholds, and the ICS risk currency set — BIA assessments build on both; see Configure ICS risks.

Steps

Set the criticality threshold column

  1. In the Repository area, select Risks, then the ICS/BIA Risks tab. With the BIA feature enabled, the BIA Criticality Threshold Column section appears at the bottom of the page.
  2. Click the edit icon, enter a column number from 1 to 6, and click the check button to save.

The number picks the time interval — 1 (4h) through 6 (4w) — up to and including which any High impact value makes an assessment business-critical. The default is 4, the 3d column. Draft assessments recalculate their criticality against the new column; confirmed assessments keep the values stored at confirmation.

Review the shared ICS settings

BIA assessments reuse two settings from the same tab:

  • Risk Relevant Objects — a BIA assessment links to one of these, and its Materiality Threshold classifies the financial impacts: Low up to the threshold, Medium up to five times it, and High above that.
  • ICS/BIA Risk Currency — the unit all BIA financial impacts are shown in.

Both are configured as described in Configure ICS risks.

Verify

Open a BIA risk's Data tab and enter a financial impact of more than five times the linked object's materiality threshold in a column inside the window — the criticality chip turns red Business-Critical. Move the same value to a column beyond the threshold column and it doesn't.
