Find where an item is used
Before you change or retire an object, see what depends on it: the diagrams whose shapes describe it and the relationships that point at it.
Prerequisites
- View access to the object; its history-related views follow the See History item permission.
Steps
See the diagrams that describe an object
Open the object and check its Described By view — the list of diagrams with shapes that describe this object. For readers without the See Unapproved permission, the data shown follows the repository's live-describes policy: either live model data or the snapshot frozen with the approved version ("Data as of …").
See the relationships that point at an item
Open the Relationships tab. Every relationship lists its partners as links, with inverse labels showing the direction — for example Risk For on a risk names the objects that carry it, and Measures on a performance indicator names what it measures. Turn on Show empty relationship types to confirm a type has no entries. The full type list is in Object relationships.
Trace terms
Glossary Terms have their own usage view: the Term References list shows where each term is used, with the location of each reference.
Search the repository
For a text-level sweep — names, summaries, file contents — use the platform search; the Query search type also accepts the iGrafx Query Language (IQL) for model-aware queries.
