RACI from diagram lanes
When lanes describe resources, the diagram can assign RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed) for you: a new object proposed from a shape automatically gets a Responsible relationship to the resource its lane describes.
Prerequisites
- The diagram checked out to you, with lanes that describe Resource or External Agent objects — labeling a lane and picking the suggestion is the quickest way.
Steps
- Add a shape inside a lane that describes a resource.
- Open the Describes panel with the shape selected and propose a new object for it to describe.
- The proposal carries an automatic assignment: the lane's described resource, as Responsible ("Auto assign — assigns the resource or external agent described by the shape's parent lane"). It shows immediately in the shape's display fields. Select Edit on the assignment to switch it to a different RACI role.
- Move the shape to another describing lane and the assignment is replaced with that lane's resource — the old lane's assignment is removed.
When the proposed object is created, the RACI relationship is created with it and appears on the object's Relationships tab and RACI section.
Limitations
- If the lane doesn't describe anything, there is no assignment to make.
- Lane-based RACI applies when proposing new objects — it does not retro-assign RACI on objects that already exist, and it does not work with proposed (not yet created) lane objects.
