Comment on a diagram

Comments pin feedback to a specific place in a diagram — especially useful during review cycles. Commenting never requires checking the diagram out, and it has its own permissions, so reviewers can comment without being able to edit.

Prerequisites

  • The Add Diagram Comments item permission to comment (viewing others' comments needs it or View All Diagram Comments). Editing, moving, deleting, and resolving comments have their own permissions — Modify Own / Delete Own / Move Any / Delete Any / Resolve/Reopen Own / Resolve/Reopen Any Diagram Comments — see Roles and Permissions.

Steps

Add a comment

  1. Open the diagram and select the Add comments tool in the toolbar.
  2. Click the shape the comment belongs to, or an empty spot on the canvas. The comment opens with the input field ready — type and save.

A comment on a shape moves with the shape; a comment on the canvas stays in place. A comment indicator appears at that location; pointing at it shows the comment.

Discuss and resolve

  • Reply to a comment to keep the discussion in one thread — the send button at the bottom of the thread, next to the input field; the comment shows its reply count.
  • Unread comments show a bold headline, and opening a comment marks it read. To set one back, use Mark As Unread in the three-dot menu at the top of the comment.
  • Resolve closes a comment — the checkmark button at the top of the thread; it shows who resolved it and when, and the same button reopens it. Edited comments are marked Edited.

Review all comments

Open the Comments panel in the side toolbar to see every comment on the diagram, filtered to Open by default — clear the filter to include resolved ones. Selecting a comment takes you to its place in the diagram.
