Prepare for first run
Problem
When installing the iGrafx Desktop Client on a system running Windows Server, the installation can stop at a dialog box reading "Prepare for first run" and never finish. If you stop the installation by clicking the X in the top right corner and then later try to run the application, it fails with:
Fatal Error: VBA Initialization Failure - -2147221164
Solution
Two different things cause this, each with its own fix.
Windows Server security settings. The default security settings prevent the Microsoft VBA installer module from launching correctly. Uninstall the application, then reinstall it by right-clicking the setup file and choosing 'Run as Administrator'.
The Windows Installer Coordinator. Starting with Windows Server 2008, Microsoft introduced this feature to allow parallel installation of applications, and it can run into a bug that stops the installation finishing properly. Deactivate remote desktop server compatibility for the Windows Installer, then restart the server. The setting is at:
Computer configuration → Guidelines → Administrative templates → Windows components → Remotedesktop Services → Remotedesktop session host → Application compatibility
